At the beginning of 1900, the two cousins, Damiano and Camillo Bertelet, live alone in their house; one obsessed with order and clocks, the other, however, scruffy and apathetic, incapable of forgetting a disappointment in love. Everything changes with the arrival of Betty who wants to escape the constraints of a guardian who frowns on the girl's passion for the theater. Damiano is engaged to a housekeeper across the street, afflicted by a shrewish mother who doesn't understand Betty's intrusion. A hypothetical infectious disease and various misunderstandings complicate the situation until everything is resolved with the double wedding of the two Bertelets who lose their proverbial grumpiness and find love.
