Vanni Bandinelli is an esteemed Florentine craftsman who owns a workshop that his family has passed down for generations; if as a carpenter and restorer he has no equals, as a father he has instead made many mistakes. Two months after the mysterious death of his son Lorenzo, who had overcome drug addiction and found work in a foster home, he found himself dealing with five reckless young men for whom Lorenzo himself had started a carpentry workshop entitled Unique Pieces (since he considered each one as a piece coming from the hands of a craftsman). While he helps these young people overcome the past by leveraging the saving function of manual labor, and suspecting that they know more about Lorenzo than they want to believe, Vanni gradually reconstructs (also thanks to frequent flashbacks) the personal dramas experienced by each of them and the mystery that lies behind his son's murder.
